St. Agnes Tournament

Despite the need for sled dogs earlier in the week, the OLV boys had two exciting victories on Monday and Tuesday. 

Tonight they are back in Rockville Centre for the championship against a VERY tough St. Agnes team.  Game begins at 9:00 p.m.

Schedule for Christmas Tournament at St. Agnes

We will definitely be playing:

1. Monday 12/27 at 5:15 pm versus St. Marys

2. Tuesday 12/28 at 1:30 pm versus St. Anthonys

and, if we qualify,

3. Championship Game Thursday 12/30 at 9:00 pm

No practice this week

There will be no team practices this week (12/20-12/25).  Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. 

Practice Time/Venue Change

Practice Tuesday (12/14) will be at 7:30 p.m. at FPBS old gym.

Chance in Practice Schedule -- Week of 12/6/10

Tuesday's practice (12/7) is cancelled because the OLV gym will not be available.  So our next practice will be Thursday (12/9) 8:30 pm at FPM.

Tough weekend -- two in the "L" column -- but OLV will bounce back!

On Saturday evening OLV couldn't find an answer to St. Anne's outside shooting.  The boys fought back in the second half but couldn't pull out a win.  The final score was 34-30 for the Garden City team.

Back to the court late Sunday evening hoping for a split this weekend but the boys couldn't overcome St. Dominic's.

Excellent teamwork in tonight's victory at Island Garden.  Remember, practice tomorrow will be from 8:30-10:00 pm in the FPM back gym. 

Thursday Practice Schedule

Starting on 12/2, our Thursday practices will be held in the Floral Park Memorial back gym from 8:30-10:00 pm.  Tuesday practices remain at OLV at 6:30.

Changes to Super League Schedule

Island Garden has made changes to the Super League schedule which effect our games in December.  Check the Calendar and S/L Game Schedule pages for details.

Practice Tuesday 11/23

Our practice on Tuesday 11/23 will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the OLV gym.  Please note that this start time is 30 minutes earlier than our usual Tuesday practice.

The "D" Train Keeps Rolling

Tonight the OLV boys played a strong game against FE Millella's team at Island Garden.  After another slow start (don't make this a habit boys!) where their opponents jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead, OLV began their comeback.  Despite bringing a 2-0 record to the court, Millella's team had no answer for the OLV press as they saw blue uniforms swarm on each possession.  OLV finished the game with a sweet 35-23 win!  But there is no rest for the weary as they have practice tomorrow night.

The first man gets the oyster (Bay), the second man gets the shell.

Home court advantage wasn't enough to help St. Dominic's on Sunday evening.  The OLV boys took an early lead which they never relinquished.  Strong offensive play teamed with continuous defensive pressure were the elements of a solid 34-26 win for the Floral Park players.

Let the Games Begin

Halfway through our first weekend of basketball and the season is already exciting. 

Friday's Super League game in Jericho saw the boys start off slowly (really slowly -- the first basket of the season wasn't scored until almost 10 minutes of the first half had elapsed!)  But once Michael Meegan got the ball rolling with the first basket of the season, the boys from Floral Park wouldn't be stopped until they secured a 22-11 win over Jericho.

Back in action on Saturday evening against a talented team from St. Edwards.  Initially, the boys in blue had some difficulty stopping the St. Edward's offense and were down by as much as 12 points in the first half.  But, after what must have been an inspirational halftime pep talk from Coach Hayden, they roared back to a commanding 40-31 win.  A nail biter for parents on the bleachers and lesson for the players on perseverance.
